The Six Kalimas (Words) are the core declarations of faith in Islam. They encapsulate the oneness of Allah (Tawheed), the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH), and the rejection of disbelief (Kufr).
While they are not found sequentially in one Hadith, they are compiled from various sources to help Muslims, especially children and new converts, memorize the fundamentals of their Iman.
1. Kalima Tayyibah (Word of Purity)
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
Transliteration:
La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah
Meaning:
There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
2. Kalima Shahadat (Word of Testimony)
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَحْدَهُۥ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُۥ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُۥ وَرَسُولُهُۥ
Transliteration:
Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluh.
Meaning:
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is One and has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.
3. Kalima Tamjeed (Word of Glorification)
سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ وَلَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
Transliteration:
Subhanallah, wal-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil-'Aliyyil-'Azim.
Meaning:
Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
4. Kalima Tawheed (Word of Oneness)
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَحْدَهُۥ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُۥ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ ٱلْحَمْدُ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَىٌّ لَّا يَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَبَدًا ذُو ٱلْجَلَالِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ بِيَدِهِ ٱلْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Transliteration:
La ilaha illallah Wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdub yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamutu abadan abada, dhul-jalali wal-ikram, biyadihil-khayr, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.
Meaning:
There is no god but Allah, He is One and has no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die. He is Full of Majesty and Bounty. In His Hand is all good, and He has power over everything.
5. Kalima Istighfar (Word of Repentance)
أَسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّٰهَ رَبِّى مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُۥ عَمْدًا أَوْ خَطَأً سِرًّا أَوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلذَّنْبِ ٱلَّذِى أَعْلَمُ وَمِنَ ٱلذَّنْبِ ٱلَّذِى لَا أَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ وَسَتَّارُ ٱلْعُيُوبِ وَغَفَّارُ ٱلذُّنُوبِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
Meaning (Summary):
I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin I committed... Verily You are the Knower of the unseen...
6. Kalima Rad-e-Kufr (Word of Rejection of Disbelief)
ٱللَّٰهُمَّ إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِۦ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِۦ تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَتَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ ٱلْكُفْرِ وَٱلشِّرْكِ وَٱلْكِذْبِ وَٱلْغِيبَةِ وَٱلْبِدْعَةِ وَٱلنَّمِيمَةِ وَٱلْفَوَاحِشِ وَٱلْبُهْتَانِ وَٱلْمَعَاصِى كُلِّهَا وَأَسْلَمْتُ وَأَقُولُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
Meaning (Summary):
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from joining any partner with You knowingly...
